Answer The Call

If you think that our legal system is open and fair to everyone – think again. Most low-income families in Illinois  have no access to legal counsel when confronting a serious legal problem. Without counsel to safeguard their rights, many low-income families unnecessarily fall victim to illegal activities affecting their housing, employment, health, education and finances. By providing low-income families with direct access to an attorney, CARPLS is working to help those who would otherwise be shut out of our legal system. Remarkably, it doesn’t take much to make a difference. According to recent studies, almost 70% of the unmet legal needs of the poor can be resolved through “brief service” which includes a simple consultation; document review and/or other limited legal services  - services which are provided by CARPLS to thousands of low-income families each year at an average cost to CARPLS of $32 per case. Thousands more need our help.

“I am so thankful to this service. I didn’t know that I could file my own case without a lawyer until I called CARPLS. I didn’t think I could do it but I told the judge what happened and he ordered the repair shop to return my money. There are a lot of people out there with legal problems who can’t afford an attorney. I’m going to refer them all to CARPLS!”
